Ling Tung Numismatic Museum was founded on the 28th of October,2006, the school's 42nd anniversary. It houses the personal collection of the former president, Dr. Michael Jen-Kwei Chen, and comprises approximately 4,000 ancient pieces of Chinese money and silver ingots and bars circulated in different dynasties illustrating the entire numismatic history of the country.
The idea of establishing the museum occurred to President Chen while the new campus for the College of Finance and Economics was under construction.? President Chen thought that through the combination of modern digital technology and information on currencies, a numismatic museum could enhance the college and provide LTU faculty and students with a stimulating venue. President Chen proposed donating his valuable collection of currencies to establish this museum. His idea received the approval and generous financial support of Dr. Min Lee, founder of the school and Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees. Construction of the museum soon began, and it is now located in the Ji-Yuan Building of the College of Finance and Economics.
Due to the size of its collections, the administration and its educational value, the museum is the first and foremost of its kind among colleges and universities in Taiwan. All LTU faculty and students are fortunate to have access to such a facility. It is our hope that the size and the quality of the museum's collection will grow and further benefit the fields of numismatics and finance.
